Dreaming of becoming an astronaut his entire life — even applying after graduation, quickly rejected because he was too tall — and now helping design parts actually being flung into space, Mike's been collecting space models and other memorabilia for a long time, most recently those highlighting the Apollo moon missions.
His favorite is Apollo 17, the last time we set foot on the moon — so far! Looking at the display, you'll see there's a sprinkling of other flights in there, too, even Skylab and the Space Shuttle, to give it a little variety. Most were bought complete; others were purchased as kits, then assembled and finished by craftsmen significantly more artistically talented than him.
Having seen the effects that dust and curious dogs can have on models, he made a conscious decision to protect his most recent pieces before putting them out on the shelf to show and enjoy.
